The name of the collection originates from the elements represented in the pair of asymmetrical earrings.
The "sensu," a Japanese folding fan, and the "temari," hand-embroidered thread balls; both objects are an ancient form of traditional Japanese art to which legends and particular meanings are tied.
Temari were originally children's toys, but over time they have taken on a symbolic meaning linked to luck, friendship, and good fortune. Temari are made from the fabric scraps of old kimonos. The silk strips are wrapped tightly together in layers until they form a small ball, which is then embroidered with highly detailed and refined figures.
Meanwhile, the shape of an open sensu represents the visual concept of prosperity. Therefore, a folding fan is considered an auspicious object and is a must-have for all social events.
The asymmetrical earrings, in their subjects and shapes, are crafted from the silks of antique Japanese kimonos, decorated with natural stones or pearls that echo the shades of the fabrics, and the metal parts are made of gold-plated brass.
