Lebole Maison has brought the Kaguya collection to life, inspired by the Moon Princess who is the protagonist of an ancient Japanese legend. The collection is expressed through three pairs of earrings featuring symbolic shapes: Moon, Cloud, and Crown, the princess. The earrings are made from the silk of antique Japanese kimonos, with symmetrical designs and mounted with a sequence of descending stones intended to simulate Kaguya’s tears.
The legend tells of a tiny creature, Kaguya, found in a bamboo stalk by an elderly woodcutter, who grew up beautiful and loved by her adoptive parents and the Emperor of Japan himself. However, Kaguya could not form attachments because one day she would have to return to the Moon, her true home. Her father, who loved her more than anything, tried to prevent this by locking her in a room guarded by two thousand imperial warriors. Yet, during the night, a Cloud formed, and from it emerged a chariot driven by the King of the Moon, Kaguya’s true father. The princess, in tears, left the earth and left a letter for her beloved emperor. The man, without even reading it, took it to the top of Mount Fuji to burn it. Since that day, people still see smoke rising toward the clouds from the top of the sacred mountain.
